The Frost Festival has something for every show horse competitor.
Catherine Brown, the President of the NSW AHA is a strong advocate for the introduction of digital change where it streamlines processes for the committee and improves the horse show experience for competitors.
While Catherine touts she is a “techno dinosaur” she has managed to lead change to introduce online entries and now digital scoring during her tenure with the NSW AHA.
This is the second NSW AHA show where HorseMark iPad scoring has been used. The first being the East Coast Arabian Horse Show held in January 2019.
With the event accepting both pre and on-the-day entries, the HorseMark scoring solution was put through its paces.
If you run events with on the day entries, you will agree that at the start of the day, competitor registrations can be tricky.
The aim is to get competitors registered quickly so they can get themselves and their horses ready in time for their first class. For most of the morning rush, we had someone walking the office line to enter the nearly one hundred day registrations into the HorseMark digital scoring system.
There were still lumpy periods in the line so we will be looking at how we can further improve this process for future horse events.
During the day, HorseMark was used by the volunteer ring stewards to enter competitors with the simple search of their competitor number, marshalling pre-entered competitors and to enter the all-important Judges scores.
It was a massive one-day program across 7 concurrent rings, more than 150 registered competitors, and 450+ classes for competitors to choose from.
Rolling up into 135 Champion classes and finally 13 Supreme classes, it put HorseMark through its paces, but the digital scoring solution didn’t disappoint creating Champion and Supreme lists automatically.
The show ring stewards appreciated the fact that they didn't have to write one single name down. They just touched the iPad and all the horses’ details came up! No more fumbling with ring sheets!
System generated results were released within 24 hours of the event without any effort from the committee, allowing them to get back to their families, businesses and personal interests without this arduous post-event administration activity of transferring results from paper ring sheets.
All in all, this was another fantastic NSW AHA event and we look forward to seeing everyone at the NSW State Titles on the 28th and 29th of September 2019.
